Agricultural Liberalization and the Developing Countries: Debunking the Fallacies

Arvind Panagariya, professor of economy at the University of Columbia (New York), debunks in the article below a series of fallacies on the relations which exist between liberalization of agricultural markets and development. He underlines in particular that subsidies and protections are not the exclusiveness of developed countries and that those do not constitute the principal barrier to the development of the poorest developing countries.
