The first Sustainable Soy Conference was organised in Foz do Iguaco (Brazil)on the 17th and 18th of March 2005. Around 250 participants from different backgrounds (growers, retailers, NGOs, government officials) were present. The "Organising Committee" (WWF, Unilever, Coop CH, Cordaid,Gruppo A. Maggi, Fetraf-Sul) will circulate proposals by mid-April. In the meantime, the following positions were adopted at the end of the conference:

- To acknowledge that soy production brings about social, economic, environmental and institutional benefits and problems

- To continue with the process for addressing these problems and develop and reinforce the chain for responsible soy production

- To ensure that this is a transparent, open, multi-sectoral, participatory and decentralized process

- To take into account issues discussed in the working groups in all future work
